"Today I am nothing, but tomorrow I may be everything." So said John Adams, vice-president to Georges Washington. A troubling prospect, which has led to renewed interest in the fate of these discreet second-men, sometimes pushed to center stage by the whims of history. How are they chosen? What place are they assigned in the Constitution? What responsibilities does the President bestow on them? Through the destiny of many vice-presidents who, for various reasons, marked their country, this documentary shows the potential and weaknesses of an institution which Americans, passionately attached as they are to their Constitution, do not wish to call into question.
