Although since 1989, Poland had been considered as a country with close, friendly ties with both France and Germany, and a motivated partner in the Weimar Triangle, the country suddenly began to ´drift´. How can its spectacular alliance with the United States only a few months away from the enlargement of the European Union be explained? How can we explain its block on the adoption of the constitutional treaty in a woolly alliance with Spain? How can somewhere considered as a progressive, pro-European country in Central and Eastern Europe be overtaken by Euro-skeptic, and indeed anti-European movements? What is happening in Poland, and what is happening to Poles?
In order to find out, we went to meet Polish people and ask them about the way they conceive Europe and the actions of their political leaders. We took part in Gazeta´s press conference and met the journalists so as to better understand what the Polish population wants today.
